Knowledge of Greek and Latin provides not only the opportunity to approach classical authors of literature, philosophy, history, law, etc. in their original languages, but also the possibility of deepening and improving the understanding of one’s own language.

The Classical Studies Minor has been designed for all students at the Universidad de los Andes who are interested in learning about and exploring ancient literary texts, in addition to wanting to understand and deepen their knowledge of a new language.

Learning Objectives


The goal of this minor is to familiarize students with the basics of Greek or Latin and offer them the opportunity to approach significant ancient literary and philosophical texts by referring to direct sources. This intensifies the enjoyment of reading and at the same time sharpens critical reading abilities and the understanding of texts that are fundamental for the student of any program.
